2025 Annual Afflictions

There are four Annual Afflictions that energetically affect every building each year. The energy of these areas, if activated, can bring illness and losses. Activation of negative energy can come from loud noises, stagnation (soil, clutter), high traffic, dislodging the soil, and chaos. Keeping these sectors tidy, clean, and quiet will mitigate the afflictions. The beginning of the new Solar Year will be on February 3, and you’ll want to adjust for these on the 2nd.

Tai Sui:

Also known as the Grand Duke Jupiter, this sector is determined by the annual zodiac animal and the direction to which it is associated. The Tai Sui determines the locations of two of the other three afflictions. In the Year of the Yin Wood Snake, the Tai Sui is in the Southeast 3 (SE3) sector. This sector is 15 degrees, from 142.6 - 157.5 degrees. There should be no construction or digging within and without this sector. Buildings that sit in this direction should not undergo any kind of renovations or major repairs unless you will not be inhabiting the building.

Do not face the Tai Sui/Grand Duke since it’s disrespectful and can incur the wrath of the Grand Duke. However, if you sit with your back to this direction the Grand Duke can be very supportive. Overall, keep this sector clean, tidy, and quiet to show respect for the Grand Duke.

Sui Po:

Also known as the Year Breaker, the Sui Po is opposite the Tai Sui, which puts it in the Northwest 3 (NW3) sector. This is a 15 degree sector from 322.6 - 337.5 degrees. Avoid construction in this sector, both inside and outside, and no digging/earth work. Keep this sector clean, tidy, and quiet. If this sector is activated, it radiates to the Tai Sui sector.

San Sha:

Also known as the Three Killings, the San Sha is centered on the East and spans 75 degrees. This year that means it spans from NE3 to SE1, or 52.6 - 127.5 degrees. Once again, keep this sector clean, tidy, and quiet. Since this includes a portion of the Wu Wang this year, it’s especially important that you don’t do any construction or digging in or around this sector. A bright light is a mitigating alternative for this sector.

Wu Wang:

The Northeast is where the malicious 5 Yellow Star lands this year and it occupies 45 degrees from NE1-NE3 (22.6 - 67.5). A portion of this sector (NE3) is also occupied by the San Sha. It’s especially important to avoid all construction and digging in and around this sector.

Ox Month Feng Shui

The Ox Month (Jan 5 - Feb 2) is the 12th month of the Dragon Year. According to the Chinese calendar, the Lunar New Year (LNY) will be January 29 this year. The Lunar year is determined by the lunar cycles, but the Solar year is always on February 3/4. The Lunar year is a cultural celebration similar to our January 1. The Solar year is what all charts are based on in the Chinese Metaphysical and Healing Arts.

As you can see in the chart, the monthly stars will be the same as the annual stars, so the energy will be DOUBLE. That’s lovely when the stars are benevolent, but not so much when they are harsh. The central energy has 2 aggressive stars with possible arguments and lawsuits. This is helpful energy for law firms/attorneys. If you have a timid nature, this energy will give you courage, but be mindful this month of being too aggressive in your interface with others. There is some positive energy in the combinations of the 3-9 stars that supports celebrations and current wealth.

The most inauspicious sector is the West. The Wu Wang in the West hosts the 5 Yellow Malicious Star, and the 5-2 combinations turn the 2 Black into an illness star, so it’s definitely not a place where you want to hang out. If your front door is in this sector, use a secondary entry if possible. If not, place a 5-tube metal windchime outside the font door. No digging or construction here.

The South sector hosts a duplicate of the 7 Red Violence Star. This will form “crossed swords” which can herald physical violence, robbery, and losses. The 9 and the 4-7 combos this sector will dull the aggressive nature of these stars, but make sure any doors and windows are secure and if this is in your kitchen be mindful of using knives since you could suffer “injury by metal.”

The most auspicious Southwest sector supports current wealth since the 9 in this period is the wealth star. It’s a good area for activities that pertain to your finances.

The Southeast combos of 2-8 also support wealth since the 8 (past wealth) supports the best nature of the 2 to encourage future wealth.

The East 1-7 combos support fame/authority, so do activities here that pertain to your career this month.

The Northwest 4-1 combinations support academics and literacy, so it’s a good sector for studies and writing.

January Month of Yin Fire Ox

The Ox Month (Jan 5 - Feb 2) is the 12th month of the Dragon Year. According to the Chinese calendar, the Lunar New Year (LNY) will be January 29 this year. The Lunar year is determined by the lunar cycles, but the Solar year begins on February 3/4…half way between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. The Ox is slow and methodical hard worker. This is appropriate as we wrap up the dynamic Yang Wood Dragon year and begin the transition to the mysterious and intuitive Yin Wood Snake year. The Ox month is also the transition between the seasons of Winter and Spring. The Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival.

If you have Goat in your chart, this will be a Clash month for you. You can expect changes/transitions. Change is always uncomfortable so just be prepared.

If you have Rat in your chart, it will form a Combination that is similar to a nobleman, in that it will smooth out the rough spots.

If you have Dog or Goat in your chart you will have an earth penalty. If you have both, you’ll have a full penalty with the possibility of adversity, suffering, or worry. Just be prepared and know that this too shall pass. Direct your energy to toward healing and solutions. This is a good time to make plans for the year ahead and to take action.

Tong Shu Resources

The traditional annual Tong Shu (Chinese almanac) includes a wealth of information. Not only does it have a day-by-day analysis for planning purposes (and date selection) but there are two resources that have a forecasting element: the Spring Cow diagram (pictured above), and the Di Nu Jing Earth Mother Sutra (Earth Mother Classics), which is written in poetic language. As is normal in Chinese metaphysics, these resources are based on a cyclical timeline. in this case, it’s a 60-yr cycle. So whatever the energy was in 1965, for instance, returns in 2025. To refresh your memory, 1965 was a volatile year involving civil rights, the Vietnam conflict, and the rise of feminism.

Traditionally, these two resources were meant specifically for agriculture practices…that is, when and what crops were to be planted and harvested. However, the mystical language also pertains to geopolitical conditions. Here are the translations for 2025:

Spring Cow Diagram:

Be quick, diligent, and don’t be lazy and crops will thrive. The price of making things, however, will rise. Everyone has to work hard but it is a good year for agriculture and business.

Earth Mother Sutra:

Overall, food production is good but there could be issues with trading and distribution, either from natural phenomena or human manipulation.

There is a real chance that prices will rise and some things cannot be sold. The economy from 2024 will carry into 2025 but still will not as good as it could be. Be quick, diligent, and take action regarding your personal investments and planning. Whatever happens in the larger market, the smaller community’s fortune is more important, so focus on improving your finances, your business, and that of your local community.

December Month of Yang Fire Rat

The Yang Fire Rat (bing zi 丙 子) is the 11th month of the Yang Wood Dragon year. This month’s double Fu Yin formation of the BaZi chart makes this month’s energy like that of the earth blanketed in snow: introspective and quieted. This energy is perfect for assessing and reassessing all aspects of your life. Interestingly enough, we will also be in Mercury Retrograde until the middle of the month…and in shadow until around the Winter Solstice. So use this energy to take stock of your life and lay out a plan for 2025 and beyond. While the world may be going crazy around you with the hustle-bustle of the holidays, reserve ample time for your own introspection and reevaluation. Begin making plans for the Year of the Yin Wood Snake (yi si 乙 巳).

A Fu Yin is a repeat of the stem and branch of a pillar. This month there’s a double Fu Yin: The month and hour pillar and the year and day pillar. This is extreme introspective or slowed down energy. It’s a time of transcendence into a new version of you in 2025. For business, it’s a great time for mentoring, teamwork, and collaboration. For personal growth, seek the assistance of others, be open to and foster collaboration.

Rat Month Feng Shui

The Rat month (Dec 6 - Jan 5) has unstable and unpredictable luck energy. Here’s a breakdown of the Xuan Kong Flying Stars Feng Shui for the month:

The Center (overall energy) 3-4 combination is a clash of male-female energy which can manifest in relationship issues. While the 3-9 and 4-9 combinations increase fame and financial luck, there’s a tendency to impulsivity, so be mindful about how you proceed and interact with others. Keep in mind that we will be under the influence of Mercury Retrograde until December 15 so be especially mindful of your communications with others.

The Southwest sector is the most auspicious area this month. It supports prosperity and celebrations. This is a good sector to hang out or use for activities that benefit your relationships, career, and finances.

The West is the least auspicious area this month, with energy of overall misfortune and illness. Avoid spending time here or activating it through sound or movement. Pig Month Feng Shui

The central energy is rocky this month, with the 5 Yellow Earth Misfortune Star visiting and combining with the aggressive energy of the Annual 3 Jade Wood Star and the 20-yr 9 Purple Fire Star. With the star combinations here, it’s best to avoid any construction.

The most auspicious areas are the Southwest and Northwest. They will support overall prosperity.

The least auspicious areas are the Center and West. It’s best to avoid spending time in these two sectors. No construction in the West.

The Yin Wood Pig Month (Nov 7 - Dec 5) will bring some settling energy. The Pig is revered in Chinese culture for its good luck and prosperity. Pig Month will generally be more peaceful, thoughtful, and good natured. The amiable, kind, and understanding nature of the Wood Pig is all about justice and compassion, and by its very nature, Pig makes everyone feel more at ease. The 2025 transformation of Lu/Prosperity: Tian Ji Star

This star deals with good fortune, abundance, wealth, harvest, success, and helpful mentors. It supports someone who is curious about the universe, science, logic, math, and the universe; people who love to think, learn, explore new ideas, develop new theories, and plan accordingly; who love to adapt and change with the environment; who value spiritual fulfillment and mind/body connection; who value personal time & space, and prefer to keep some distance in relationships. So if we focus more on these qualities, it can bring us prosperity. To make full use of this star, be curious, open-minded, and adaptable. Use and hone your critical thinking and plan for your future.

The 2025 Transformation of Quan/Power: Tian Liang Star

This star deals with power, status, control, management, appearance, and responsibility. It supports an older person or “old soul” or someone who may be authoritative, old fashioned, responsible, very kind and caring…like a grandparent or parent figure. They may be religious or spiritual, intuitive, and often blessed by ancestors. They are more stable, mature, wise, and may prefer to distance themselves from others or prefers more alone time. The 2025 Transformation of Ji/Challenges: Tai Yin Star

The Tai Yin Star can mean weakness, hidden problems, negative people, worries, struggles, and blind spots. The qualities of this star will appear to be soft, kind, patient, easy-going, and stable. It often relates to females or female-related industries. The Tai Yin is moon or earth energy. It can be too conservative, shy, passive, or lack ambition. If there’s something that you or someone else has been hiding, it’s likely to be revealed this month. With the US elections occurring on Nov 5, this is energetically aligned. Change emerges from chaos. The National Treasure Star this month helps build trust with others, while the Month Emptiness Star encourages forgiveness. It will also become clear about who stands with you and who will abandon you when things begin to come unraveled. So, you can expect to see both challenges and possibilities this month!

The Dog month is considered a transitional month between Autumn and Winter with a Yang Earth element. When combined with the Yang Wood element, it creates some tension. The Dog Month (Oct 8 - Nov 6) central energy: 6 White Career Star is hosted by the 3 Jade Aggressive Star can boost aggressive behavior. If you are meek and need a boost for your career this will be helpful, but be careful of getting too sassy since the 3 Jade can also result in arguments.

Supportive areas:

Northeast: 9 Purple Current Wealth Star supercharges this sector with support for finances, celebrations, and joy.

East: is very supportive for academic studies, writing, and overall scholarship.

South: 1 White neutralizes the 7 Red Violence Star. The 1 White supports Fame/Authority.

Southwest: The aggressive 3 Jade joins the 9 Purple to fire up this sector with an extra boost of energy.

The Yin Water Roster (Gul You 癸酉), Sept 7 - Oct 7, heralds the fullest expression of Autumn with metal energy. Yin Metal, to be exact…which is refined metal like jewelry. This is fitting for Rooster, which is dynamic, self-assured, confident, showing its talents with panache. Because of its moodiness and outspokenness, it can strain relationships. But the Water Rooster is also a very hard worker, intelligent, and has enormous energy. Rooster is associated with all things fashionable, flashy, and refined. So, as you can see, we are working with high, bright energy this month, which can be harnessed to move ahead with confidence and purpose. The Rooster is most suited to be a Politician, Diplomat, Public Speaker, Actor, or Fashion Designer, so this month will be very supportive of those careers. With the current election cycle in the US, Politicians will get an extra energy boost this month.

The 7th month of the Chinese Year, the overall energy of the Monkey month (Aug 7 - Sep 6) is pretty supportive. The core energy has a combination that can support family quarrels, impulsiveness, reputation, and finances. Be mindful with your family communications and avoid impulsive behavior. Here’s a breakdown of the other sectors:

The most supportive sectors are the North and East:

The North will be a good area for doing to foundational work because it will be rock solid. Don’t expect any “fruit” right away…it’s a seedling but it will have solid roots. So activities pertaining to things like long-term investments of any kind should yield good returns later. The same goes for starting something new. Use this area to make a plan that you can work over the long haul.

The East will support networking. Again, think of how your connections will affect your business or endeavor long term. But start now, whether it’s sending out emails, scheduling meetings, or cold calls. The East sector will support and solidify these connections.

The least supportive sectors are the Southwest and the West.

The Southwest is like sitting on a volcano. Definitely avoid activating this sector/doing important activities here. Because if you fail, it could have huge ramifications for everyone in the house.

Aug 2024 Month of the Yang Water Monkey

The Yang Water Monkey month is the 7th month of the Wood Dragon year. You’ve likely heard of “monkey shines” which describes some aspects of Monkey months. The Water Monkey, however, is a little more disciplined and overall supports leadership and creativity. However, family dynamics, particularly communications, may be an issue and it’s important to practice some form of stress management.

In a Wood Dragon year, the Monkey is considered the 2nd luckiest month of the year, so that’s hopeful in the wake of what’s been going on both domestically and globally.

Monkey Month heralds the transition into Fall. It’s main element is Metal, which will be slightly eroded by the yang water of the Stem. Water is in Monkey’s hidden elements, so that will “root” the water, giving it more control. This may result in an erosion of the strength of the monkey luck.

Tiger+Snake+Monkey = a Fire Penalty that can negatively affect relationships and health. If you have both Tiger & Snake in your chart, be mindful of how you interact with others and take care of your health. If you only have one of the two, you have a half combo that can still have a negative influence.

If you have Yin Earth or Yin Wood in your chart, or you were born in a year ending with a 5 or 8, this is a Nobleman month so be on the lookout for people who can help you.

If you have Tiger, Horse, or Dog in your chart, this could be a time of travel or change with the Traveling Horse Star present.

If you have Tiger in your chart, this is also a Clash month for you…a time of change and transformation as you may be pivoting from challenges.

Poison Arrow Energy

This is a perfect example of Poison Arrow Energy in Feng Shui. What you see here are triangular balconies on a building in Copenhagen. To explain what Poison Arrow Energy feels like, I always like to point a pen or pencil at someone and ask them how it feels. They immediately move away because it feels the same as if you were at knifepoint.

So what does a Poison Arrow do? it can encourage any number of unfortunate events: catastrophic illness, accidents, financial difficulties, and relationship problems. If it’s an office or other place of business there could be HR problems, cash flow issues, accidents in the workplace, or health problems.

Whenever you see a building with a pointed edge towards another building, that’s considered a poison arrow. It could be a corner of the building or an architectural feature such as in the above picture…thought I’ve never seen such a high concentration as this before. Years ago I heard of a bank that was directly across the street from a building with a large pointed architectural feature directed at the bank. That bank struggled to keep its doors open and allegedly finally had to shutter its doors. I have personally witnessed the effects of Poison Arrow Energy on a couple of my clients. Yes, there’s a way to mitigate it, but first you have to be aware of it. The easiest way to mitigate this energy is with landscaping or fencing. It can also be deflected with rounded objects such as gazing balls that are used in garden scapes. I prefer a more substantial barrier like a fence or a landscaping hedge because something small requires perfect placement to deflect the energy.

It is my understanding that the giant metal sculpture of a globe in front of the Trump Int’l building was placed there to mitigate a poison arrow from across the street. I would be interested to know if this building in Copenhagen faces any other buildings around it. It’s difficult to see on Google Earth.

Goat Month Feng Shui

The central energy of the Goat Month (July 6 - Aug 7) brings the 9 Purple (Fire) Star that says “celebrate” and “growth.” It will be boosted by the 9 Era time star and the Annual 3 Wood Growth Star. The Earth element of the Center Gua will combine with the Wood and Fire to form a harmonious productive cycle. Keep in mind that this central energy affects the overall mood of every building.

Sectors that are least favorable and shouldn’t be activated by use:

West: The 2 Black Star (future wealth) combines with the Annual 5 Yellow Malicious Star to form energy that can be catastrophic with illness and loss. The metal energy of the West sector will blunt these two earth elements but it’s still not a place to spend a lot of time.

North: The 5 Black is boosted by the 8 White (past wealth) and the combination with these two earth stars with the water of the North sector creates tension that can result in illness and loss.

The sector that is most supportive:

Southeast: The 2 Black is transformed by the 8 White to it’s most positive attribute, which is future wealth. These two earth stars are somewhat challenged by the yin wood element of the SE but it’s still a good sector for financial and business planning. Be cautious in your projections and you could grow a “field of flowers.”

Other supportive areas:

East: The annual 1 White (water) is supported by the 7 Red (metal). This combination supports reputation so doing activities here that may enhance your authority or fame would be appropriate. The wood of this sector creates tension so be mindful to avoid overreach.

Northwest: The 1 White (water) supports the 4 Green (wood) to support literary or scholastic ventures. The metal of this sector creates a productive, harmonious metal-water-wood cycle.

July 2024 Month of the Yin Metal Goat

July 6 - August 7 is the month of the Yin Metal Goat. The Goat month is the end of summer…the 6th month of the Chinese year of the Dragon. The yin metal element is characterized as refined metal, such as jewelry. Goat is a yin earth (fertile land) element with three hidden elements of yin fire, earth, and wood. So there’s a productive cycle of fire, earth, metal, and wood, all yin in nature. Goats are peace-loving, kind, and popular. Metal goats may appear confident, can be susceptible and vulnerable, so they will do anything to protect themselves. Metal Goat is associated with “service” work such as politics and volunteering, so we will likely see an uptick in political activity/activists globally this month.

This is a CLASH month for the Ox and Yin Wood, so if you have either in your chart, you will likely face challenges and obstacles. This is a transitional time for you. Learn to pivot gracefully and take any challenge as an opportunity for personal growth.

This is NOBLEMAN month for you if you have a Yang Wood, Yang Earth or Yang Metal Day Master, or if you were born in a year ending with a 0, 4, or 8. There will be helpful people at your disposal…IF you look for them.

2-Day Room Refresher

Do you have a room that could use a little re-design/re-fresh but you don’t want to spend a fortune? I can help you re-imagine it, using your existing furnishings. It could be as simple as styling and editing what you have and freshening it up with accessories and paint. I “shop your house” for needed additional pieces before resorting to new purchases. The result is a room that has either a new identity or just a re-fresh…all inside of a day or two.

This study is a perfect example of a 1-Day re-fresh. We removed everything then cleaned the space and edited the contents, removing what was no longer needed, and then reorganized and styled what was left. We added a few decorative items that we “shopped” from other areas of the house for a “put together” look. Horse Month Feng Shui

The month of the Snake (Jun 5 - Jul 5) has a central energy of aggressive authority with two stars in a productive cycle. The Water energy of the 1 White Authority/Career Star joins and supports the 3 Jade Aggressive Star. This can be good for lawyers and those who need a little push. But there’s a caveat for those with an aggressive nature as this energy can get you into hot water. Be careful with this energy since it can end in arguments and lawsuits. If you need to mitigate this energy in your home, add fire energy to the center segment. This can be a 24/7 night light or a small, red decorative item, such as a candle, vase, or pillow.

This month's most supportive zone is North, with two White stars supporting wealth and career. Activate this zone through use…particularly in activities that pertain to your career and finances.

The East Sector is also occupied by two White stars that support wealth and reputation. They are in a dominant cycle, so there’s a little tension, which means that there may be challenges. However, this is a useable sector for important activities that support your authority/reputation and finances.

This month’s least auspicious zone is the South, with the 5 Yellow Malicious Star joining the 7 Red Violence Star. This combination supports violence, loss, and health issues. Please don’t activate this sector. If it is your main entry, use another one for this month, or at least be very quiet when you leave or enter…and be mindful of security!
