The Disposition of Ashes
Yang House (Dwelling of the Living) Feng Shui focuses on creating a supportive space for inhabitants of homes and other buildings using natural features and elements, along with a complex system of calculations, principles and procedures. This is practiced by highly skilled Specialists and Masters of the Art.
Yin House (Ancestral Graveyard) Feng Shui is a specialty that deals with burial sites only. Highly qualified Licensed Masters of Yin House carry out this complex set of principles and procedures for the interment of mortal remains.
In Western culture, people sometimes keep the cremated remains (aka “cremains”) of pets and loved ones in their homes. My response to this practice has always been the same, even before I understood the energetic ramifications as a practitioner of Feng Shui. I have always been puzzled as to why anyone would want to live with the deceased! We don’t keep bodies or portions thereof of our deceased loved ones in our dwellings, so why keep their ashes? I realize there is a connection to the practice of religious relics, but when you think about it, it’s a little macabre and disturbing.
There is an energetic reason we shouldn’t keep cremains in our dwellings: Their EXTREME Yin energy. In Yang Feng Shui, our goal is to RAISE the frequency of a space by balancing the inherent natal energy of the space to support those who dwell or work there. Extreme Yin energy has a very low vibration. It is no longer living so the vibration has essentially “flat-lined.” It’s easier to mitigate extreme Yang energy such as an excess of light or sound than it is to counterbalance the extreme Yin of death and dying.
It is for this reason that it’s unsuitable to live near a cemetery, crematory, funeral home, or hospital. The extreme Yin has a profound negative effect on the living. If your business is an ancillary of one of these facilities it will be supported, but generally, any other kind of business is likely to suffer losses. People who live near one of these facilities can suffer ill health…emotionally, psychologically, as well as other physical manifestations. They can also suffer financial and business limitations or losses. In spite of your efforts to raise the frequency of a building that’s affected by that much Yin, it’s a never-ending and exhausting effort, which perpetuates more Sha and Yin energy.
So, when storing cremains at home, the drain on the energy of your home and its inhabitants will be perpetual and damaging. In spite of everything you do to counteract it, it’s a constant drain on your life-force or Ch’i. It’s exhausting and futile! So, what are your options? There are three that I recommend, with a fourth in the case of a large estate or property. The reason I don’t recommend the fourth normally is that there’s not enough distance so it’s equivalent to living by a cemetery.
Have them interred at an appropriate site such as a Memorial Garden or Cemetery.
Disperse into nature
Off-site storage
If the dwelling sits on acreage or very large lot, create a Memorial Garden in a remote corner with an in-ground interment or free standing columbarium for inurnment
Ultimately removal of cremains from a dwelling will result in a shift of energy that’s palpable and positive. You’ll feel an overall lightness and some people notice the space is visibly brighter…like sunlight has entered or fog has dissipated. If you have cremains in your home, give one of these solutions a try and leave a comment below regarding your experiences after their removal.
